NORFOLK ISLAND WA'A OUTRIGGER CLUB

Hi Yorlye, we've started a blogspot to save John some time sending and responding to e-mails and we'll post all the progress and actions from the club meetings here so you can access it yourselves. So, the good news is, we've formed a club. President is George Barff, Vice President is Phil Evans, Secretary/Treasurer is John Christian. The traditional name for outrigger boats is Va'a, but as the Norfolk Language doesn't have V, the club is called Norfolk Island Wa'a outrigger club.

We've had around 50 people register their interest. Membership to the club is $10 and the club also decided that it would be great if each member could contribute $50 towards the building of the boat, so that we can get it started. Members decided that they wanted to build our boats here, so we are building an OC 4 outrigger and then hopefully build another one straight away so that 2 crews can paddle against each other.

The club now has a bank account with Westpac. Please phone John for account details to deposit either membership fees or boat building contribution. Do this as soon as possible so that we can get building underway, so that we will have a boat for the summer!

The members also decided that January 23rd 2011 which is designated date for Burning of the Bounty celebration would also be a good time to have our first regatta! Keep checking back for more information.

If any of you have any fundraising ideas and would like to develop them, please come to a meeting. Our first fundraiser is an art raffle in which 5 club members have donated works to raffle. The raffle will display in the Westpac bank next week, followed by Saturday stall to sell tickets in Foodlands. Members will also be given tickets to sell. This raffle has been postponed a week to organise raffle permits, but should hopefully be ready to go next meeting Friday August 27, 5.30pm at the Sports and Workers Club.

That's all for now, will update this regularly as more information comes to hand.
